If you made a list of things that the San Jose Sharks didn’t want to have happen as the 2014-15 season comes to a close, “clinging to a small chance at the playoffs without Marc-Edouard Vlasic in the lineup” would have been near the top.
That’s the reality as the Sharks gear up to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins in a tough road contest tonight though. San Jose’s No. 1 defenseman left yesterday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers after playing just 6:03 in the first period.
The Sharks are on the last leg of a seven-game road trip (today’s contest against the Penguins is the final game of this swing), and won’t know more details about Vlasic’s condition until the team returns to San Jose. Head coach Todd McLellan had this to say about the defenseman’s health, according to Kevin Kurz at CSNBayArea.com:
He’s not going to play tonight and the sense that I’m getting now is that when we get back, he’ll be reviewed and we’ll probably be looking a little longer than we originally anticipated. But, we won’t know that until we get back.
Vlasic sounded more hopeful than his coach when discussing the injury, but the Sharks recalled Taylor Fedun from the AHL to take the open spot in the lineup against the Penguins.
Better late than never for Taylor Fedun to make his #sjsharks debut this season.

McLellan also told Kurz that more details about Vlasic won’t be known until Monday, and we’ll keep an eye on the situation as it develops.
