Henrik Lundqvist wasn’t bad in Game 1, but the Washington Capitals were able to score with less than two second remaining in the contest to go up 1-0 in the second-round series. Having lost home-ice advantage by losing that game, the Blueshirts knew they needed to win Game 2 to stay alive in the series.
The forwards are doing their jobs so far, and the All-World netminder is certainly holding up his end of the bargain. With the Capitals pressing to pull within one goal during the second period, Alex Ovechkin makes a slick spinning cross-crease pass to Evgeny Kuznetsov. The forward is streaking in on Lundqvist, and shows phenomenal patience on the play.
Sometimes it doesn’t matter how perfect a shooter’s timing is. The goalie is simply able to match it, and that’s what Lundqvist does here.

That’s a save that is as timely as it is sensational. It’s what makes Lundqvist one of the best playoff goalies around, and he gives the Rangers a legit chance to win nearly every time he starts. The Capitals had been flying in the second frame, pushing to score their first goal of Game 2.
Kuznetsov would go on to score just a few minutes later, but this clutch stop from the veteran netminder is worth watching a few times at least.
