Before you ask: yes, Andrei Markov and Carey Price are on the same team.
With the Montreal Canadiens pushing the Ottawa Senators for the opening goal in their 2015 NHL playoff series, Milan Michalek dumped the puck into his offensive zone from center ice. What happened next was mildly crazy considering we’re not even through the first period of this game yet.
The puck made its way to the front of the net, where Markov… tapped the puck into his own net. Not exactly the way Montreal was looking to open this playoff series on home ice.
That’s right. The Cinderella Senators scored their first goal against the Habs without really having to do anything. It kind of figures, right? Markov was clearly distraught following the play, but Ottawa will take it. Andrew Hammond made a few key saves early, keeping the score knotted at zilch.
The weird bounce changed that though, giving Michalek his first goal of the postseason. Neither team has seized momentum to this point, and the Senators are protecting a one-goal lead late in the first period.
