Don’t Snow the Goalie is a women’s hockey podcast that believes in treating women’s sports like sports. Kate Cimini, Hannah Bevis and Kate Reeher focus on happenings in the National Women’s Hockey League (and occasionally the Canadian Women’s Hockey League) every week, whether that be a trade, expansion rumors or potential draft picks. They bring you the latest in the NWHL and CWHL, including front-office moves, game analysis, player stats and more.
This week, Kate Reeher, Kate Cimini and Hannah Bevis talk about the BREAKING (or maybe not so breaking) NEWS about the NWHL finals between the Boston Pride and the Buffalo Beauts taking place on NHL ice… or possibly just an NHL practice arena. Confusion abounds.
Continuing on the theme of the Isobel Cup, Bevis recapped the semi-final games, starting with the (expected) win of the Boston Pride over the New York Riveters, and the much more surprising upset of the Connecticut Whale by the Buffalo Beauts.
The Beauts even took out the season regular second-seed team while missing their captain, Meghan Duggan for most of their series.
Expectations for the Isobel Cup Finals were up for discussion, but Bevis, Reeher and Cimini were overall unanimous in their expectation that the Pride would win it all.
Switching leagues, they covered the CWHL final coming up between Les Canadiennes de Montreal and the Calgary Inferno, who will play for the Clarkson Cup this weekend. Bevis will be in attendance for Today’s Slapshot.
Reeher and Cimini took the lead in a discussion of some Hockey 101 questions sent in, largely about special teams.
Finally, the episode closed out with several mailbag questions, including about who they would draft first in a fantasy league, and how women’s sports can improve the availability of analytical data.
