It was only fitting that the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues would go to the third period of Game 7 to decide their first-round series on Monday. In a series that was decided by so little, so little once again decided Game 7.
For the sixth time in the series, one goal decided the outcome. And for the fourth time, it was the Blues who held the advantage when the dust was cleared. Troy Brouwer, a former Blackhawk, scored the lone goal in the third period to lift the Blues to a 3-2 win in Game 7. It’s the first time since 2012 Chicago didn’t make it out of the first round.
Brian Hedger and Scott Powers were there in St. Louis for Game 7 and stuck around to discuss the final game, the whole series and the offseason ahead for the Blackhawks. Hedger and Powers recorded podcasts throughout the series and season.
Scott Powers has been covering the Blackhawks for the past four seasons. He was a staff writer for ESPN Chicago from 2009-2015 and covered the Blackhawks for them for three seasons. He is now a staff contributor for The Athletic in Chicago. He has also written for Today’s Slapshot, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Tribune, USA Hockey Magazine and other publications throughout the country.
Brian Hedger is a veteran on the Blackhawks’ beat and has been writing about them throughout their three Stanly Cups over the past six seasons. He is a correspondent for NHL.com and mainly covers the Blackhawks for the website. He has also written for the Chicago Sun-Times, Daily Herald, The Athletic and many other publications.
