Fantasy Hockey: DraftKings Lineup – February 13

(Dan Hamilton/Icon Sportswire)

A vital part of being a successful DFS hockey player is being able to assemble a strong cash game or double up team. I always start with the goaltender, the foundation of every cash game team. Your goalie choice dictates the monetary average and direction you want to go with the rest of your team.

G – C. Crawford – Chicago – $8,400

Crawford is one of the best goalies in the NHL and a front-runner for the Vezina Trophy. He has a .929 save percentage, a 2.14 goals-against average and seven shutouts on the season and the Blackhawks are one of the best home teams. On a long road trip, Anaheim will have its hands full as they still struggle to score goals, ranking 29th overall.  Look for this game to low scoring and for Crawford to get the win.

D – B. Burns – San Jose – $8,200

I have no problem paying up for Burns in this matchup. He will have full reign tonight against a sub-par Arizona team allowing the 28th-most goals in the league. Burns has amassed 225 shots and 50 points so far this year. He will add to that tonight as the San Jose power play will find the back of the net.

D – E. Karlsson – Ottawa – $7,700

Again, I don’t mind paying this price for a guy who averages 4.8 FPPG and is almost like a fourth forward at times, especially on the power play. Karlsson and crew face a terrible defensive Blue Jackets team. In a game Vegas thinks will most likely see a total of six or seven total goals, it’s a must to have exposure to this game, on both sides.

C – J. Thornton – San Jose – $5,800

This wily veteran is the core cog on a team with high hopes but continues to falter come playoff time. Thornton and the first line faces off against Arizona playing its second game in as many nights. Arizona ranks in the bottom five in goals allowed and after a late game last night, a fresh Sharks team will continue its scoring ways. Ranked fourth in goals scored, San Jose will roll through a struggling Coyotes team.

W – M. Hoffman – Ottawa- $5,800

Hoffman has had a good season with 24 goals and 19 assists. His 158 shot total adds a ton of value to him and is a must-play against a defensively-poor Columbus team.

W – B. Wheeler – Winnipeg –  $6,900

Wheeler is having a good season despite being on a poor defensive team allowing a ton of goals. With 14 goals on the year and 155 shots, he averages 4.0 FPPG game. Against another poor defensive team in Edmonton, look for Wheeler to find the back of the net and get plenty of power play time.

C – N. Backstrom – Washington – $7,000

A scoring machine, it’s hard not to have exposure to this team on a nightly basis. Backstrom offers exposure to Ovechkin while allowing you to save some money. Ranked first in scoring as a team, Washington squares off against a Dallas team that has really struggled to keep the puck out of the net. Backstrom has 52 points and averages 19-plus minutes of ice a game. A threat at even strength or on the power play, Backstrom is a pure playmaker and keeps Ovi fed.

W – J. Eberle – Edmonton – $5,700

Eberle and the second line of Edmonton has been on fire lately. Coming off a hat trick, Eberle finds himself in another nice matchup at home against the Jets. Playing with McDavid and Pouliot, Eberle has thrived and will continue to.

UTILITY – B. Ryan – Ottawa – $6,200

Ryan plays on a line with Hoffman and I want him as a part of my stack tonight against the Blue Jackets. Ryan is one goal shy of 20 and has 132 shots this year to round out a healthy FPPG average of 3.3.
