There are only three playoff games on the DraftKings slate tonight as the playoffs heat up and teams with their backs to the wall either step up or shut up. I have assembled a team tonight based on two lines that will peform and put points on the board toto keep their season alive.

G: S.Mason, Philadelphia – $7,800
After letting in a goal that my grandpa could have saved, Mason will be fully focused and motivated to backstop his club to a big home win tonight. Mason has been one of the main reasons the Flyers are where they are and I expect Mason to shine tonight to make up for his lackluster performance in Game 2.

D: P. Martin, San Jose – $2,700
In order to fit the two high-priced lines on the team, I had to use very low-priced defenseman. Paul Martin plays with Brent Burns and the two are home tonight against an L.A. team that is desperate. Martin will look to block shots as he stays home while Burns rushed up the ice.

D: S. Johns, Dallas – $2,700
Johns has stepped up in a big way at the end of the season and has carved a niche out as the D-partner to Johnny Oduya. Dallas is up two games to zero and go into Minnesota tonight looking to secure a firm hold on the series.

W: J. Voracek, Philadelphia – $6,100
Voracek has moved up to the first line in light of Couturiers’ injury. I am looking to this line to make a statement at home tonight as they have their backs to the wall not wanting to go down three games to nil.

W: T. Toffoli, Los Angeles – $5,700
Toffoli and the Kings are in the same boat as the Flyers heading into San Jose tonight, trying to breathe life into their season that is going down in flames. Toffoli and a healthy Gaborik need to kickstart their team and will do all they can to figure out Jones.

W: W. Simmonds, Philadelphia – $6,700
Simmonds is a force in front of the net and needs to assert his position to secure space in front of the net and help screen out Holtby who has been great. Simmonds will not go quietly into that good night, as he will be a key cog in the game.

C: J. Carter, Los Angeles – $6,400
Carter is a veteran who whose leadership abilities will be called upon to help bring his team together in the face of adversity, down two games to San Jose. Carter centers Toffoli and Gaborik on the second line and sees alot of time on the first power play unit as well.

C: C. Giroux, Philadelphia – $7,200
The Flyers captain is in the same position, as he needs to resuscitate his team and find a way to win just one game, tonight, at home. I expect Giroux to step up in a big way and to be the reason the Flyers win. Giroux hates to lose and tonight that will be magnified tenfold.

Utility: M. Gaborik, Los Angeles – $4,700
Gaborik fit perfectly into this team and I had no problem slotting him in because of his talent and magic hands. Gaborik will add another scorer to the Kings who are in desperate need of goals as they fight to keep their season alive tonight.

On nights with few games, I like to play entire lines, as these slates are hit and miss. Playing the entire line give you control over time on ice and power play time when trying to maximize players’ exposure to points in the game.

As for tinkering with your lineup, do not do it — it hurts in the long run. Set your lineup, process it and then leave it. A half hour before game time, check everyone’s status via Global Player Swap to see if anyone is a late scratch, and only then make changes when necessary. Don’t out-think yourself!
