New Jersey has been eliminated from NHL playoff contention. The Chicago Blackhawks’ Jonathan Toews tipped in a blast from the blue line with only twenty seconds left to secure a win over rival Winnipeg, and the Central Division has been shaken up–March Madness applies to more than just the NCAA Tournament, let’s be real here.
My roster for Monday contains a savvy core of weirdos and playmakers, so with no further ado, let’s jump into our selections.
C Mark Arcobello (ARI) $3,900
“AK, you’re killing me.”
Am I, though? Let’s weigh in a bit more on the Arizona center.
Put pucks to the net and good things happen. If you’ve ever taken the time out to watch a hockey game on television, you can collect a chart for how many times you hear announcers and analysts repeat that very saying.
Apparently it’s working for Arcobello as he’s thrown the rubber to opposing goaltenders on 14 occasions the recent five games. With a three-game point streak, let’s keep the hot trend going for Monday.
C Paul Stastny (STL) $4,600
I’m real fond of the Blues in ’15, but dropping four of the last five should have Ken Hitchcock pacing back and forth as St. Louis jumbles in the Central.
Stastny has been a non-factor the previous handful of games, but the ex-Avalanche will be on the ice a ton.
W Marion Gaborik (LAK) $5,400
Hockey fans alike will have the luxury of viewing one of the best modern rivalries in the sport once LA travels to the Windy City.
The Kings, still searching for points, will lean on their veterans once more–I like Gaborik for Monday’s contest.
W Patrick Eaves (DAL) $4,500
The Dallas forward culminated the last matchup with Calgary a week ago with a -1 rating and without a place on the scoresheet.
He followed that up with another average performance versus Edmonton, but caught the back of the net versus Vancouver over the weekend. I’ll look for Patrick Eaves to be one of the Stars with a tally on Monday.
W Patrick Sharp (CHI) $6,300
From one Patrick to another, Sharp’s been picking it up as the playoffs near (given his whopping $6,300 price tag) for the Blackhawks.
The winger’s slowed down in the month of March, but a goal against Winnipeg could be the spark he needs to make a run into the postseason.
D Jan Hejda (COL) $2,800
Not sure many people are familiar with the Colorado defenseman, but I’m sure Tyson Barrie will receive most of the attention from fantasy owners.
Instead, hoard that extra $2,000 and pick up Hejda, as he’s amassed a +6 rating in as many contests.
D Dennis Wideman (CGY) $5,400
Wideman has been great for Calgary with Giordano being absent with an arm injury, so without much research or advice, slide a consistent guy in your lineup.
G Mike Smith (ARI) $7,800
I mentioned on Twitter last week when the ‘Yotes-Sabres clashed that Arizona wasn’t necessarily in a great spot. Not sure what it is about the east coast, but they’ve surrendered 43 goals in 11 games played on the opposite end of the country.
I expect defensive adjustments to be made following a contest with seven tallies last week.
Tank for McDavid.
UTIL Max Pacioretty (MTL) $8,400
Patches. Michigan Wolverine. Boston Bruin Killer.
