Tuesday morning at 1:30 am on the east coast (still Wednesday on the west coast, where they were playing) Team USA’s Alex Carpenter finally found a way to solve the puzzle that was Emerance Maschmeyer and Team Canada, putting a single goal in overtime past Maschmeyer, who had emerged over the tournament as the top goalie for Canada.
After a hard-fought three periods, with much back-and-forth, Alex Carpenter, daughter of Bobby Carpenter, managed to slap one past Maschmeyer, aka the Monster Masch.
The game between Team USA and Team Canada for the gold medal Monday night into Tuesday morning was so tense, so tight, so furious that we couldn’t capture it all in words. In fact, many didn’t have any words at all. Here, for your viewing pleasure, is the game…in Tweets.
(Spoiler alert: It ended with Flynn changing her photo to the beautiful bald eagle you see above.)
Even reporters covering the game had a hard time catching their breath or saying anything remotely coherent.
Penalties ranging from soft calls to undisciplined actions taken by Team USA didn’t help matters; although their penalty kill was strong Team Canada used the breaks to put the pressure on the U.S.
Canada’s breakaways, though they continued with some frequency, began to stutter, showing a team struggling to catch up to the player leading the pack.
I will leave you with this.
