Photoessay: The Riveters’ Last Home Game of the Season

Sunday the Riveters played host to the Buffalo Beauts in their final home game of the season and the loyal fans who braved the cold were treated to the team’s first win since just after Christmas. The game was clearly about more than playoff seeding to the Riveters and their fans, it was about pride and writing a positive chapter for their last appearance on their home ice in the NWHL’s inaugural season.

The afternoon hockey created a significant amount of glare on the ice that was a challenge for both teams, but especially defenders who line up on the left side. However, that glare also provided some fantastic lighting that made the Riveters’ final battle and win at Aviator all the more memorable and special to their loyal fans.

The rink was cold, it was packed, and it was loud. After a tough season, the Riveters won an emotional game over Buffalo in the shootout thanks to goals from Ammerman and Dosdall and the goaltending of Nana Fujimoto.

The two teams will meet again this upcoming Sunday for the Beauts’ final meeting with the Riveters of the season. This time around Buffalo will have the home ice advantage in a game that will shape what the first round of the NWHL playoffs will look like and which of New York’s two NWHL franchises will meet the Connecticut Whale and which will meet the Boston Pride.
