The Toronto Maple Leafs have been having a fire sale leading up to the 2016 Trade Deadline, and it looks like forward PA Parenteau is the next player who will head out to another team.
The Leafs reportedly told Parenteau on Wednesday afternoon that he’s being traded, and that the deal was just being finalized. Rumors from Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada pointed to the New York Islanders being a trade candidate – and the Leafs potentially looking to bring the veteran back in the off-season – but no final destination was named at the time the announcement was made.
Through 58 games played with Toronto in the 2015-16 season, Parenteau boasts 15 goals and 30 points. That production, good for fourth on the team, made him an attractive trade target for the club heading towards the deadline later this week; it offers seven more goals and eight more points than the right winger finished his 2014-15 season with (although in two more games).
Drafted 264th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in 2001, Parenteau currently boasts 96 goals and 257 career points over 405 NHL games.
