Sobotka nearing a return after on-ice injury

During the game on September 8, the Avangard Omsk (KHL) center Vladimir Sobotka left the ice with what was described at the time as a serious injury (then later was downgraded). He went straight to the locker room at the time of the incident.

Soboka, 29, is playing as part of the Czech Republic team for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. The team has played the Russian team twice in exhibition in Europe and is set to play tomorrow (Wednesday September 14) against Team North America at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh at 3:30 EST. The game can be viewed live on ESPN3, SN, SN1, and TVA Sports.

The former NHL forward who spent time with both the Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues, is no stranger to representing his native Czech Republic. He has suited up for his native country a dozen times starting with his first U17 tournament during the 2003-04 season.

Tomorrow’s game will be in the final day of the pre-torment games.

This Saturday, September 17 the Preliminary Round games for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey will start at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto with a 3:30 p.m. EST matchup with Team USA and Team Europe. Later that night the Czech Republic team will face off against Canada.
