The San Jose Sharks advanced to the Western Conference Final in emphatic fashion Thursday, as they posted a 5-0 victory over the visiting Nashville Predators in Game 7 of their conference semifinal series.
Logan Couture recorded a goal and two assists while Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton both added one of each for the Sharks, who moved on to the conference final for the first time since 2010-11. Captain Joe Pavelski and Joel Ward also scored while Martin Jones turned aside 20 shots for his first career postseason shutout.
Couture’s performance gave him 11 points in the series – a new franchise record. Pavelski’s goal was his ninth of the playoffs, tying him with Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning for the league lead.
San Jose improved to 5-1 at home this postseason and 6-4 all-time in Game 7s. By improving to 3-1 in such contests at home, the Sharks assured that a team from California would participate in the conference final for the 10th time in the last 12 postseasons.
The Sharks will visit the St. Louis Blues on Sunday for Game 1 of the conference final. San Jose has yet to advance past this round, losing to the Calgary Flames in six games in 2004, the Chicago Blackhawks in four in 2010 and the Vancouver Canucks in five the following year.
