New York’s Mats Zuccarello isn’t just helping the team on the ice, but helping Rangers’ fans off it too.
Young fan Vinny Mutone hoped to wow his girlfriend with a special gift from the Norwegian forward when he took her to Monday’s game between the Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets; and it seems Zuccarello was only to happy to help once he’d seen Mutone’s home made sign which read “Zucc! If you give me your stick she’ll go to prom with me!!!”
Zuccarello passed one of his extra sticks to a security guard, who presented it to the high school pair. The 28- year old then caught up with them following the Rangers 2-1 victory to sign both Muntone’s sign and the stick.

“Gotta help a buddy out,” Zuccarello told The New York Daily News after the game. “Gotta help him get to prom.”
Mutone’s partner, Catherine De Pinho, did indeed say ‘yes’ to the prom date, though admitted she’d have said yes even without the stick.
Zuccarello, who scored the opening goal against the Blue Jackets, leads the Rangers in scoring with 47 points, having posted a career best 21 goals this season. In 285 career NHL games with the Rangers, he has registered 66 goals and 189 points.
He signed a four-year contract extension with the club last March, worth $18 million
