The Pittsburgh Penguins were scheduled to play the league leading Washington Capitals Sunday, January 24, however the match up has been cancelled due to weather. Currently, no makeup date has been announced.
The league was also forced to cancel Friday’s game in Washington D.C., where the Capitals’ elite offense would take on the stout defense of the Anaheim Ducks. There has not yet been a new date announced for that game, either.
The Capitals will honor all tickets purchased on the new dates once those become available. All additional information will be sent to ticket holders through e-mail.
Winter storm Jonas hit the east coast on Friday, coating the Washington D.C. area with over 18 inches of snow by Saturday morning. Washington D.C. and the Baltimore area remain under blizzard warnings, and residents are urged to stay inside and off the roads. The mid-Atlantic states could see over two feet of snow by Sunday, and wind gusts over 40 miles per hour, per weather.com.
The severe weather could also potentially impact games being played in New York city, as the metropolis is also under a blizzard warning. The New York Islanders are at home Saturday night, scheduled to play the Philadelphia Flyers at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
