Bob McKenzie was on Edmonton’s TSN 1260 on Friday morning.
The other storyline that popped up yesterday was how active the Calgary Flames may end up being or let’s say want to be today. And if they do want to move into the top 5, that’s in the Oilers’ wheelhouse. You automatically may connect that 4th overall pick to Dougie Hamilton. The Flames, is there a certain player they want do you think, or is a matter of trying to free up some room to sign Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, and a goaltender somehow?
“I think it’s a little bit of both. I think there’s no question they look at their situation… if they do make a deal for Ben Bishop, they’ve got to know what the extension on Bishop, who’s unrestricted in a year, is going to be. Is it going to be multiple years, five, six, seven years. Does he want $6 million or more a year.
“And with Gaudreau and Monahan contracts coming up, they probably are looking at offloading some salary.
“Now, having said that, I get conflicting reports. What I hear in Calgary is Dougie Hamilton is not available. Other people think he is. So we’ll see how that plays out.
“But the mere fact that Calgary and Edmonton might be talking (laughs) is extraordinary on one level, and especially situated so closely in the draft. But I could see a scenario where Calgary would love to be able to have the 4th and the 6th pick, and be able to walk away with a Matthew Tkachuk and an Olli Juolevi to go with the young players they’ve got, like Gaudreau and Monahan and Bennett and those sorts of things.
“But I’m not sure how you necessarily facilitate that…”
