Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov is dealing with an undisclosed injury after leaving Thursday night’s game in Montreal following a spill into the boards.

Per Erik Erlendsson, head coach Jon Cooper said of the injury: “Hopefully it won’t be too long, but he definitely couldn’t finish the game,” adding that it was unclear whether the problem was as a direct result of the fall or an aggravation of another problem the 23-year-old may have been experiencing.

Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times also added that Cooper specified that the club did not believe it was a concussion.

Kucherov lost an edge during the first period whilst attempting to turn near the Tampa Bay bench, colliding heavily with the boards. He immediately left the game and did not return.

Selected in the second round (58th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by Tampa Bay, Kucherov has featured in 218 career NHL games to date, registering 69 goals and 156 points with a further 22 goals and 42 points in 45 play-off appearances for the club.

Kucherov signed a new three-year, $14.3 million contract earlier this month.

In seven games for the Lightning so far this season, he has one goal and seven points–most of which came on Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs, where the Russian forward scored a goal and added three assists in a 7-3 win at the Air Canada Center.

Tampa Bay will travel to New Jersey on Saturday for the fourth game in a six-game Eastern Conference road swing, with a clash against the Rangers on the cards 24-hours later. The Lightning then face the Islanders on Tuesday before returning to home ice against Boston on Thursday.
