Pierre LeBrun was on Vancouver’s TSN 1040 on Wednesday morning.
On if he’s heard any names attached to the word ‘buyout’ yet:
“Yeah, I mean certainly contemplation. But nothing for sure at this point, I would say.”
On if he thinks Ryan O’Reilly is still in play:
“Yeah, I mean I think he’s in play in the sense that Colorado is listening. I don’t think they’ve made it a priority to move him. But I think again, they’re a team that needs to improve on the blueline and they also eventually have to sign him and they don’t know if they can do that. So I think his name is there.
“Listen, you go up and down the list, there’s all kinds of names. You look at the St. Louis Blues. Again, they’re not pressing to doing anything, but they’re more open than they’ve ever been to a team calling them on one of their core guys – their veteran guys – and saying, ‘Do you feel like moving an apple for an apple.’ I think the Blues would do that because they know that something is not quite right in terms of them being a disappointment in the first round every year. So they’re an interesting team to keep an eye on.
“I mean, your own team – the Canucks – are interesting. They’re willing to listen on both Markstrom and Lack. Now, they’re only going to move one of them. But I think there’s some urgency for Vancouver to try and get a second round pick, since they don’t have one in what is a very deep draft. So the clock is ticking on that.
“So you can go through all 30 teams and I’ll find you a storyline. I think it’s going to be a fascinating couple of weeks.”
