Pierre LeBrun was on Montreal’s TSN 690 on Tuesday evening.
On what he’s most excited about this season:
“I think the 3-on-3 is going to be a lot of fun for me.
“I’m not going to lie, watching Eichel and McDavid and comparing the two kids to each other all year long is going to be a lot of fun.
“I was interviewing Wayne Gretzky last week about his thoughts on McDavid. You know, being a young franchise player in Edmonton, obviously walking in the same shoes as Wayne. At the end of the interview, unsolicited, he brought up Eichel, saying that he’s been excited by him too.
“And he said, ‘You know, Eichel-McDavid is like Larry Bird and Magic Johnson for the NHL’ has the potential to be that.
“I think he’s right. As much as we tend to overhype things, and if you go back to the Crosby and Ovechkin rookie year in ‘05-6, the hype machine was in full gear and it turned off a lot of people. But those two guys have lived up to everything that the hype was, if you think about it, 10 years ago for each other, and I think this has the chance to be just as good a rivalry I think between these two young kids.”
