Friedman: Ducks Could Play Andersen Trade Card

Elliotte Friedman was on Edmonton’s 630 CHED on Friday afternoon.

On if there’s any concern in Anaheim with Bruce Boudreau:

“Yeah, I think there is. Bob Murray – I tried to reach out to him last week, he wouldn’t chat. But the one thing I know about Murray, and I’ve spoken to other guys about it and they agree, is that he believes firing the coach is an absolute last resort.

“I think that he’s looking at this saying, ‘Look, you’ve got zero goals for Kesler, Getzlaf and Perry. No coach is going to win with that.’

“I think he wants them to sort it out. I think he wants to give Boudreau the road trip. But Jarmo Kekalainen didn’t want to fire Todd Richards either, and eventually you just reach a point of no return.

“So they’re moving in that direction, but I really do think Murray wants to give Boudreau these next four games on the trip to sort it out.”

On Bob Murray having been in Edmonton to watch the Detroit game:

“Bob Murray was there. I heard he was in Calgary too. The other thing is, at Buffalo-Toronto the other night, his right-hand man, Rick Patterson, and one of his top scouts, was there.

“I do believe that. I think if Bob Murray could make a move, like Kekalainen, he would do that first. Kekalainen couldn’t do it. We’ll see if Bob is any more successful.”

On what Murray would be looking for:

“I just think he – he likes to collect good players. His way is you collect good players and then you see if you go with that. So I’m sure he’s probably looking for some ideas. Maybe blueline.

“The other thing too is, at some point in time, John Gibson’s got to play. So I wonder if – and I don’t know this for sure – but he’s got a really nice chip there in Frederik Andersen. Gibson’s signed long term, Andersen isn’t.

“It’s purely an educated guess, but I could see that being the card he plays.”
