Elliotte Friedman was on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 on Monday morning.

On the Washington Capitals:

“They’re all business, that team. They’re really a good team. They were my Eastern Conference pick to go to the Stanley Cup Final before the year.

“Lest you think I’m bragging, my Western Conference pick was Anaheim – which doesn’t look really good right now.

“I just think they’re a heck of a team. They’re deep. They’ve got a lot of different ways that they can beat you. They can beat you with offense. They can beat you physically. They’ve got a great goaltender.

“Although it’s interesting. Holtby got pulled in his second-last start. Last night Trotz mentioned that he was thinking of pulling him, although he eventually kept him in. I mean, the guy is a great goalie. He is absolutely a great goalie.

“I think there’s a lot of different ways that team can beat you. I think they’re very legit. They’re in ‘go for it’ mode. They’re going to go out and they’re looking at adding one more forward, maybe another center, to try and win the Stanley Cup this season.

“So I really do – I like them a lot. I think they’re a really talented team. And I think they’ve got a heck of a coach. So you’ve got all of that together, and you’re an absolute contender.

“What do they have, an eight-point lead in their division? It’s hard to lead a division by that many points now, and they’re doing it.”
