Darren Dreger was on Toronto’s TSN 1050 on Friday morning.

On who he thinks the Norris Trophy nominees should be, and on why the Norris is such a contentious award in the NHL:

“Well, if I tell you who I think they should be, then I’m basically telling you who I put on my Top 5 list because I’m a voter, and I have no problem with that.

“I went with Drew Doughty No. 1. So my belief is Doughty will win the Norris Trophy.

“Brent Burns of the San Jose Sharks, I thought had a terrific year. I positioned him No. 2, which is likely going to enrage Ottawa Senators fans (laughs).

“Erik Karlsson, for me, was No. 3. It’s tough to get by the offense that Karlsson generated throughout the regular season. But defensively we know the liabilities in his game, and the Ottawa Senators didn’t make the playoffs.

“I put Letang of the Pittsburgh Penguins No. 4, and Roman Josi of the Nashville Predators No. 5.

“So I don’t know that Drew Doughty is going to win his first Norris, but for me he embodies what the Norris Trophy winner should be about.”

The conversation continues from there…
