The Carolina Hurricanes have claimed another off of waiver as other NHL clubs prune their rosters to get under the 23-man roster limit by this evenings deadline.
Klas Dahlbeck, 25, spent last season with the Arizona Coyotes. In 71 games played in the 2015-16 season he had two goals and eight points along with 28 penalty minutes while patrolling the clubs blue line.
Originally selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the third-round of the 2011 NHL Draft the 6’2”, 207-pound Swede is a stay-at-home defenseman that has only played the one full season in the NHL.
Since being drafted Dahlbeck has played in 197 American Hockey League (AHL) games with time spent with both the Rockford IceHogs and the Portland Pirates. Over three AHL campaigns he has scored 52 points (15 goals and 37 assists) and accumulated 113 penalty minutes while maintaining a plus-31 rating.
The defensive minded Swede if paired correctly will allow for an offensive partner to pinch in and make the play while he hangs back and covers the point.
With Carolina making changes to their system and identity adding new young players that other clubs have run out of waivers for may be the new trade deadline.
