Canucks general manager Jim Benning was on Vancouver’s TSN 1040 on Friday afternoon.

On where he is in the process of trying to add another winger, either via trade or free agency, and if there are any active discussions with key guys that could potentially impact the top six:

“We’re looking at all of our options there. I’ve talked to a bunch of teams around the league. We realy haven’t got anywhere with those talks. We’re circling back maybe on some guys that are free agents still, talking to their agents and seeing where they’re at. But we would like to try to add an experienced 15-20 goal scorer, if we could, going into the season.”

On if he anticipates bringing anyone into training camp on a PTO:

“Yeah, we’ve talked about that. That’s something that I think we’re going to look at too. We’ve got a couple of names that we’re going to try to figure out if they would come in on PTOs. But like I said, we’re still talking to other teams about potential trades, and/or looking in the free agent market to try to get somebody out of there.”

On how a lot of those potential PTO candidates are free agents who want to believe they can still get a contract somewhere before they agree to accept a PTO:

“Yeah, I think that’s a true statement. I think guys that don’t have contracts now, they’re still holding out for hope that they’re going to get a contract. But we’ve talked to a couple of players that if they’re not able to get a contract, if they would come in on a PTO. So we’re starting to line guys up for that.”

On if he’d have interest in types of players like a Jiri Hudler or a Brandon Pirri or an Antoine Vermette:

“I’m not going to say the names of the players that we have interest in. But we’re looking at all of our options in the UFA market to try to make our team competitive for this upcoming season.”
